The Foundation awarded eight Fellowships for research and travel within Europe as indicated.
For travel from Europe to Scotland
Dr Maurizio Campanelli, Istituto Storico Italiano per il Media Evo, Rome to visit the Department of Mediaeval History, University of St Andrews, to carry out detailed research on early medieval, specifically 14th century, Rome.
Dr Emilio Jose Luque Azcona, El Colegio de America, Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville, to visit the School of the Buiolt Environment, Heriot Watt University for collaborative research on a comparative analysis of the historical development of the historic centres of Edinburgh and Salvador do Bahia, Brazil.
Professor Carla Sassi, Facolta di Lingue e Letterature Straniere, Universita Di Verona, Verona, to visit the Department of English Studies, University of Stirling to continue her research on representations of colonial relations in Scottish Literature - Caribbean-Scottish Passages.
Professor Deniz Zeyurek, Department of Foreign Language Education & Cognitive Science, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, to visit the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh and carry out more detailed analysis in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics, with particular reference to Turkish discourse, morphology and phonology.
For travel from Scotland to Europe
Dr Andrew Newby, School of History & Classics, University of Edinburgh, to visit the Centre for Nordic Studies, University of Helskinki to carry out research into the relationship between the land and the peasants in 19th century Scandinavia.
Dr Josefa Toribio-Mateas, Department of Philosophy, University of Edinburgh, to visit the Department of Logic, History & Philosophy of Science, University of Barcelona to undertake a focused critical study of current views of the distinction betwee state and content nonconceptualism regarding the content of perceptual experience.
Dr Arnoud Visser, School of Classics, University of St Andrews, to visit the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, to continue research into the impact of Erasmus on the collected works of Autustine.
Professor Chris Warhurst, Department of Human Resource Management, University of Strathclyde, to visit the Institute of Work & Technology, University of Duisburg & Essen to enable the international comparative analysis of newly completed research into low-wage work in the UK and German hotel industries.
