The Foundation awarded seven Fellowships for research and travel within Europe as indicated.
For travel from Scotland to Europe
Dr Martin P. Kirkbride, Department of Geography, University of Dundee, to visit the Department de Géographie/CISM, Université de Savoie, France and the Dipartimento di Scienza della Terra, Universita di Milano, Italy, to document and explain changes in surface debris cover on alpine glaciers over recent decades.
Professor Niall R. Whitty, School of Law, University of Edinburgh, to visit the Max-Planck-Institut für Auslandisches und Internationales Privatrecht, Hamburg, Germany, to carry out research to support the creation of a comprehensive monograph on the Scots law of enrichment.
Dr Christopher Whyte, Department of Scottish Literature, University of Glasgow, to visit several centres in Hungary and Romania to study the literature of the Hungarian communities in Transylvania as part of work on the concept of nationhood.
For travel from Europe to Scotland
Dr Victor Apryschenko, History Faculty, Rostov State University, Russia, to be based in the University of Strathclyde and also visit Edinburgh and London to carry out research into the Union of 1707 and the roots of Scottish Nationalism.
Dr Ema Jelinkova, Department of English & American Studies, Palacky University, Czech Republic, to visit the Department of English Literature, University of Edinburgh, to carry out research into contemporary Scottish prose and current trends in literary criticism.
Dr Alexander Panayotov, Department of Mediterranean & Far Eastern Studies, New Bulgarian University, Sofia, to visit the School of Divinity, University of St Andrews, to assist in the development of courses in New Testament and Jewish Studies for Bulgarian universities.
Rev Dr Istvan Pasztori-Kupan, Protestant Theological Institute Cluj (Kolozsvár), Romania, to visit New College, University of Edinburgh, to consult documents there which will enable him to finalise his forthcoming book on Theodoret of Cyrus, one of the Fathers of the Early Church.
