The Foundation awarded two Postgraduate Scholarships to support young people carrying out a three-year programme of research leading to a PhD degree in Scotland. Both will hold their Scholarship Awards in the universities from which they gained their first degrees.
Margaret Maxwell, a graduate of Aberdeen University will be studying for a PhD in that university's Research Institute of Irish & Scottish Studies. The title of her thesis is "Negative Equity?: Culture, Identity and Representations of ‘the house’".
Elizabeth Miller, a mathematics graduate of Heriot-Watt University will be staying there to carry out her PhD research, entitled "Geometric group theory for inverse semigroups".
