The Foundation awarded three Postgraduate Scholarships to support young people carrying out a three-year programme of research leading to a PhD degree in Scotland. All three hold their Scholarship Awards in the universities from which they gained their first degrees.
Leigh Ann Jones, who has a degree in Immunology & Microbiology from Strathclyde University, will be investigating the influence of sex- and pregnancy-associated hormones on immune function and the development and maintenance of immunity to Toxoplasma gondii.
Ruaraidh McIntosh, who has a degree in Chemistry from Heriot-Watt University, will be carrying out research on supraicosahedral carborane chemistry.
Niall O'Gallagher, a graduate in English & Scottish Literature of Glasgow University, will be focusing on the recurring theme of Empire in Alasdair Gray's writing during his research into post-Colonial Scottish writing.
