The Foundation awarded three Postgraduate Scholarships for 2001-03 from October 2001. All the recipients will be holding their awards and carrying out research leading to PhD degrees in the universities from which they gained their first degrees.
Colin Dunsmore, a Chemistry graduate of the University of Edinburgh, will working to investigate high affinity ligands for human cyclophilin A using combinatorial synthesis and parallel screening.
Louisa W. Gairn, a graduate in English Language & Literature of the University of St Andrews and who has a Masters degree in Scottish Literature from Glasgow University, will be returning to St Andrews to carry out her research project, entitled: "Re-writing the Environment: Ecology and Scottish Literature, 1850-1940".
Sara C. Paterson, a graduate in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Strathclyde University, will be investigating whether the plasma protein AGP can abrogate STI571 activity in chronic myeloid leukaemia.
